3 years is far away. Yet your competitors are doing it. Here's how
Here's how to build your 3-year vision without getting lost in the clouds:
🎯 1. Imagine your business in 3 years, then rewind the timeline
- Where do you want to be in 3 years? Double turnover? 3 branches? A team of 10?
- Then rewind: what steps to get there at 2 years, 1 year, 6 months, tomorrow?
- A salon in Kisumu set a goal to open 2 new salons in 3 years. Today, they have 3. Every step was planned.
📝 2. Write your plan on a single page
- Not a 50-page document. One page. The essentials: your goals, key metrics, priority actions.
- A One-Page Business Plan is easier to follow, share with your team, and revise.
- 90% of entrepreneurs who write down their goals achieve them.
📅 3. Block 1 hour per month to review your course
- No need for a full annual plan. Each month, take 1 hour to check if you're on track.
- Tick what's done. Adjust what isn't. Move forward. One hour a month is 12 hours a year. It's little. And it's all you need.
- SMEs that do this "monthly check-in" grow twice as fast, according to a McKinsey study adapted to the Kenyan context.
Tip: Don't build this plan alone. Involve your team. Involve a mentor. Even involve a loyal customer. Their perspectives will open doors you didn't see.
Do it now: Take a sheet of paper. Write your 3-year vision in one sentence. Then note 3 concrete actions for the next 3 months. The first one starts tomorrow.
